September 2011

Early in the month there were a few notable catches recorded. At Fordwich Lake the carp chasers were enjoying good sport with Daniel Courtney leading the way with six fish including a 27lb 11oz specimen and two others weighing 26lb and 24lb. Daniel fished 100 yards from the north bank using the ever popular fishmeal boily baits. Daniel's brother Jason fished in the same manner to reel in five more carp to 25lb. That part of the lake also provided a good brace of 26lb and 22lb for John Glasier and four more for Richard Bacchus including his best fish, another of 26lb. Steve Cock bagged another three fish, and yet again the best tipped the scales to 26lb. At Minster there had been lots of fish caught including John Sturge's haul of over 100lb using paste fished on a pole and Dave Lowrey's 100lb plus bag that were all caught using dog biscuit baits. Dave's net-full included several fish over 10lb. With a move to Stonar Lake John Sturge tried his luck for roach using his pole but this time with maggot baits. John targeted the bigger fish and finished his session with several good roach to 1lb 9oz. Alan Cain fished with the same methods and reeled in more quality roach to 1lb 12oz from this superb fishery. Trenley Lake at Fordwich proved a great venue for Alan Mills who feeder-fished sweetcorn baits from the north bank known as the 'deeps'. Alan landed twenty four bream to 6lb plus twelve tench to 5lb in a most memorable session. Later in the month, following on from the successes of the Association's Open Competition, more good bags were reported from the River Stour including several good roach over 1lb and two 6lb bream for Dean Hadlow who fished with bread baits below a float at Grove Ferry. Big bream were being taken in abundance from Trenley Lake. Paul Downes fished with a size 12 hook and worm baits over groundbait to land twenty bream to 6lb and twelve tench to 5lb. Minster lakes remained very fishable with lots of big catches being reported. Pole and paste tactics continued to produce the best results and using that approach Peter Bury landed over 100lb of fish in one session. The Fordwich Lake carp were feeding for the winter ahead and this provided a great period of sport for four carp anglers fishing from the north bank. Dave Footman reeled in four carp to 29.5lb while Brian Gaemer hooked a common of 29.5lb and Don Sedgwick another specimen common of 28.5lb. Steve Kemp followed suit with three more hefty carp to 25lb.
