October 2011

Despite the hot and bright conditions our members enjoyed a bumper period of sport during the Indian summer that extended into October. At Cut End on the River Stour Ray Fuller landed twelve superb bream to 7lb 8oz plus several roach to 1lb all on feeder fished worm. Upstream at Grove Ferry John Collins and Ben Johnson targeted carp with boilie baits and John reeled in a 10lb common and Ben another fish of 10lb and a very lively common of 19lb in an excellent session on the river. Carp were caught at Fordwich Lake where Nathan Cook landed a 30lb mirror from the north bank and Lee White and Richard Bacchus both caught mirrors of 14lb. Dave Wilmore went in search of the elusive carp in Stour Lake and wasn't disappointed when he skilfully slipped his landing net under a specimen mirror of 31lb 8oz. Dave's fish was caught from the river bank at close range using boilies. Trenley Lake hosted Richard William who bagged up with sixteen tench and twenty-two bream to 6lb. Richard used a size 12 hook with sweetcorn baits all presented on a feeder rod. During the middle of the month the warm and dry spell continued to provide great sport for anglers and a few colder nights encouraged pike anglers to go in search of their quarry especially during the bright mornings. At Cut End on the River Stour regular visitor Ray Fuller targeted pike after a most successful few months reeling in plenty of bream and other big coarse fish from the river. Ray fished paternostered dead baits to hook four lively predators, the heaviest being 14lb. Daniel Phipps fished at Minster lakes to bag over 100lb of fish, mainly carp, all taken on pole-fished paste baits. Another one hundred pound bag was taken by Colin Davies, this time from Trenley Lake where Colin's sweetcorn baits attracted both bream and tench and were presented on a feeder rod at the 'deeps' on the north bank. Carp anglers at Fordwich Lake remained very successful. Nathan Cook had a fine tussle with a 24lb mirror caught from the car park end of the lake at 80 yards range. Anglers fishing at long range from the north bank have also faired well. Lee White reeled in five weighty carp including a common of 28lb 8oz. Another five fish haul fell to Gary Hills who caught fish to 26lb while Brian Gaemer netted a good brace of carp to 20lb.
