June 2011
The 2011/2012 angling season began with fantastic catches being reported across the Association’s waters in East Kent.
Carp anglers at Fordwich Lake arguably enjoyed the best of the action with early-season regular Steve Cock landing a fine brace of 19lb and 20lb 4oz from the north bank. John Glasier enjoyed another brace of 19lb carp at long range, and then fished closer to the bank for another lively fish of 15lb.
Other successful Fordwich ‘first-weekers’ included Stuart White with five carp to 23lb, Frasier Marsh with a fish of 26lb and Richard Bacchus with eight carp to 21lb. Richard also landed nine tench all from close range. Richard’s daughter Charlotte Bacchus proved the juniors were also amongst the action with a fine 7.5 lb bream and a carp of 17lb.
The car park end of the lake was fished by Steve West who finished his spell with eight carp to 21lb 4oz all caught close to the bank.
John Sturge is famed for his early-season big catches and this year he landed an incredible 349lb that included fifty three bream and three tench. John’s best two bream tipped the scales to 8lb 8oz and 8lb 4oz. Legered worm from the north bank on a size 12 hook to 6lb line was the winning formulae.
At Trenley Lake adjacent to Fordwich, Paul Sturge followed in his father’s footsteps with bream bags of 202lb and 150lb all taken on a feeder rod with sweetcorn baits fished from the north bank ‘deeps’.
David Sturge kept up the family tradition with bream bags of 70lb and 150lb from Trenley, and fishing in Stour Lake Mark Sturge had a fantastic start with a carp of 12lb followed by another incredible Stour carp of 32lb 8oz. Both fish were caught from the river bank on boilie baits.
