August 2011

Despite the changeable weather early in the month fish were being recorded in numbers from our various lakes and the River Stour. At Trenley Lake Charles Bedford netted a superb total of 150lb of bream and tench to 6lb. Charles legered sweetcorn baits over a bed of groundbait at the 'deeps'. A specimen mirror carp of 28lb 5oz was landed from Stour Lake by a member who wished to remain anonymous. The super fish was taken from the 'river' bank. Minster lakes were experiencing plenty of great catches and bags of between 100lb and 300lb were being reported daily. Pole fished paste baits seem to be producing the best of the action. At Cut End on the River Stour Ray Fuller landed thirteen bream to 7lb 8oz using legered bread flake over a bed of mashed bread. Ray also slipped his landing net under a number of specimen roach of over 1lb. Fordwich Lake continued its fine form. Richard Bacchus caught three common carp to 25lb in one session and a return trip earned him four more to 24lb. Jeff Davies banked a 20lb mirror carp at long range. Darren Offen fished near to Jeff's chosen swim at the north bank to hook a superb linear carp of 29lb. Fishing baits very close to the bank at the Fordwich 'deeps' Daniel Courtney used boilies to tempt four lively carp to 18lb 8oz. Stonar Lake was fishing extremely well with numerous big carp, bream, tench and roach coming to the net from all round the water. Four members of the Culley family bagged up with Chris netting bream to 5lb 14oz, three carp to 10lb and a mirror of 12lb 8oz. Stefen's six carp to 10lb accompanied Terry's ten carp to 10lb and a 13lb 14oz fully scaled mirror. Junior CDAA angler Bailey reeled in a lively common carp of 10lb 3oz. Ron Weaving landed thirty five bream to 5lb and two small carp while carp expert James Rintoul landed eight fish to 10lb, commons of 12lb and 16lb 12oz plus mirrors of 10lb 1oz, 17lb, 20lb 10oz and 22lb 4oz. James went on to land a fully scaled mirror carp of 22lb. Rob McLennon hooked a mirror of 22lb 4oz and Dan Webb one of 14lb 8oz, while Maria Wills targeted smaller fish and finished with four carp under 10lb, two commons of 10lb 4oz a piece, plus commons of 11lb 8oz, 13lb and two more of 15lb. Maria also caught nineteen rudd to 3lb, a crucian carp of 2lb plus a bream of 9lb. John Wilkinson banked roach and thirty bream with his best fish tipping the scales to 5lb. Barry Parker joined the long list of common carp catchers at that time from the fabulous Sandwich still water and finished with commons of 5lb, a brace of 10lb and a lively fish of 18lb. Barry also hooked a mirror of 12lb. Stonar's bailiff Jock White enjoyed a great night fishing with his grandson junior angler Harvie Dobson. Jock landed three bream to 7lb while Harvie recorded a very fine haul that included two tench to 2lb 4oz, two carp to 5lb 8oz and nine bream to 6lb. During the latter half of the month, Trenley and Stour lakes were both producing more excellent catches. Steve Payne's boily fished at close range was picked up by a lively 24lb common carp which he skilfully brought to the net from the 'river' bank of Stour. David Burrows fished from the north bank of Trenley, known as the 'deeps', to land fourteen tench and twenty-two bream to 6lb, all caught on feeder-fished sweetcorn. Stonar continued to fish very well and similarly at Minster lakes superb catches were being reported most notably Dave Lowrey's one hundred pound plus bag that included several fish of over 10lb and a good catch of tench and bream. The most successful method at that time was super soft paste fished on a pole. Fordwich Lake carp anglers were back in action with a number of big rod benders being tamed onto the bank. Stuart White landed an incredible eight carp in one morning in a stunning thirteen fish haul that included five fish over twenty pounds. Stuart's best fish was 25lb 8oz and all the fish were taken at long range from the north bank. Stuart's dad Lee White was also amongst the fish with four more carp to 23lb caught using similar tactics. The same approach provided Darren Offen with three more weighty carp to 24lb. The car park end of Fordwich Lake was fished by Jason Courtney using floating dog biscuit baits. Jason's patience and skill were instrumental in his fine catch of five carp including a common of 28lb. Also during August the River Stour at Cut End proved a great venue for big bream angler Lee Turner who feeder-fished worm to hook sixteen super fish to 7lb 8oz.
